I was recently asked a question why some map locations don't show on a Business Directory Google Map and what can be done about it.
The reason for the map issue is Google cannot locate your address information in their database. They do not have all addresses in their database or they may have an address with the value Street and you may be entering it as St.
When this occurs, here is what I do:
- Go to http://maps.google.com/
- I place an address in the search box - example: 3000 W Division Street, St. Cloud, MN
- I right mouse click over the icon that appears at the map location
and click center map here.
- Next, I click Link to this page
- A Paste link in email or IM box pops up with a URL address
- The URL, in our example, looks like this:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=3000+W+Division+Street,+St.+Cloud,+MN
&sll=45.553154,-94.194403&sspn=0.010894,0.018797&ie=UTF8&ll=45.553382,-94.194267
&spn=0.010894,0.018797&z=16&iwloc=addr
- I grab the latitude and longitude coordinates and go back to my business directing listing and click edit while logged in as an Administrator or another security role that has permission to view the Administrator console.
- I then manually add the latitude and longitude coordinates to my listing.
45.553154 and -94.194403

- And then click Update Listing
In most cases, you can get the correct map to show using this procedure. If not, Google does not have the address location in their database.
For the occasions where Google cannot find the map location, you can either find the coordinates to the city location or opt to not include the Google map and directions link. These choices are available per listing and located under the listing Address Information tab.
