When something is entered into the User Search box and the Enter key is hit rather than using the Search link two problems exist depending on role assignment.

  • If you are logged in and have permission to add records, the Add New Listing link is executed.
  • If you are not logged in or do not have permission to add records, the PagePrint popup is executed or you get a PopUp error if PopUps are disabled.

I can see this being a problem since most search boxes execute the search when the Enter key is pressed and do not require a separate Search link as XMod does.

Is this a problem with BD6.1 or did I somehow screw up my installation to cause this behavior?

I checked a few other sites using BD and they don't seem to behave this way. They all accept the Enter key as expected and if nothing is entered in the search box, seem to return the first business in the list.

So I must have screwed something up or could it be this is a problem with DNN 5.1.1 and XMod 5.5?

This appears to be a bug in XMod 5.5 as I have been able to reproduce the behavior using the Articles Starter package included with XMod.

I have posted this issue on DNNDev.com to see what they have to say about it.

Buck, maybe you can get an answer to this from DNNDev since the issue will impact your products as more people move to XMod 5.5. I haven't been able to get an answer to my post on their forum.

Ed,

Asp.net applications are designed that only one can control can capture the enter key event at any given time.

However, Kelly Ford believes:

"you can use some JS to set the key. If so, you could set the key when the search field textbox gets focus. This could be added via jQuery, regardless of XMod. This is assuming that I'm correct in how that works. I haven't had time to research."

Hope that helps in your research,
Buck
