We have done something slightly different on the Business Directory application that may be interpeted as against the norm of the built in XMod approval system.

Many of our Business Directory clients wanted the listing to show up in the list with the words listing awaiting approval so they could easily traverse the list in the morning and spot the listings that needed their attention.

If a listing is in this state, the data from the form does not show on the Xmod templates but the message of waiting for approval does.

This is all handled by the select case statements on the list view template.

Xmod interpets it as an approved listing but the form data is not revealed until the Administrator, in the form's admin console, approves it as standard or enhanced.

If the administrator edits the record and approves it as a standard or enhanced listing the appropiate data is returned based on their choice of standard or enhanced.

At that point you can use the approval icons to approve or unapprove the listing and it should go into the appropiate status in the Xmod approval dropdown box selection.

FYI - I have been working with FatGeorge on an enhancement to his XMod add-on named Housekeeper. I am testing the new enhancements this week.

The new enhancements will look to see if the user (listing agent) is still in the security role that is allowed to add a listing. If not, Housekeeper will optionally set the listing as unapproved or expired.

This will be very helpful if you have a subscription tool in place that collects recurring billing for an enhanced listing and places the subscriber in the role that you have set that has permission to add/edit their listing.

If the subscriber does not renew their subscription, Housekeeper will manage the viewing of the listing on a scheduled basis testing if the user is still in the correct security role.

Buck,

Would it be possilbe to have the option to set an enhanced listing to standard as well as options for unapproved and expired? If that can be included in the Housekeeper enhancement I would think it could be useful.

Thanks,
Ed

Hi Ed,

I have been in touch, this weekend, with Tony from FatGeorge.

He is currently enjoying a camping trip and we will be testing Housekeeper, this week, at my outdoors site at http://justnorth.com/Marketplace.aspx.

Tony has included some new features for handling the approval and expired process as I have mentioned in my previous post.

Unfortunately, he can not develop Housekeeper as a unique XMod add-on only for Business Directory.

The conversion from Standard Listing to Enhanced Listing would still need to be managed manually or through a custom SQL update statement.

Buck

I have also been thinking about Enhanced listings, if the definition of an enhanced listing was that extra content e.g. information, video, pictures was displayed then the display of this should be controlable using the Custom Templates Tag IfInRoles.

If the Enhanced parts of the listing template were enclosed by this tag then when the lister's EnhancedListing Role expires they are no longer in that role and hence the enhanced content will not be displayed until they re-subscribe.

we don't make XMod, we make it better!
