Question:

Is there a way I can link directly to the detail page of a business listing? What would that code look like? We have businesses that we are featuring on our home page and we'd like to be able to go directly from the homepage to their detail page

Solution:

On the details page of a Business Directory listing is a bookmark link.

if you are using IE, it will be "Add to Favorites".

if you are using FireFox, it will be "Create a Bookmark".

If you right click on that link >> go to properties >> select the URL portion begining with http://

Detail Page URL for Business Directory listing

In the above example the full link would be:

http://training.dnnprofessor.com/tabid/62/xmmid/393/xmid/6/xmview/2/Default.aspx

Now you can use this link to go directly to the detail page.

Buck, when we click on a "View Details" link and are on an BD Item page, the URL doesn't change to the item URL. Indeed it looks like a postback has occured within the Xmod module, rather than a page relod. In our own Xmod modules we've developed, the URL does change to the item URL. Can you share what you'd doing to cause this different behaviour?

We also have an issue where the item detail page of all our xmod form requires login, though BD items do not require login to view details (which is the behaviour we want).

 Hi Tacf IT,

On your List View templates, do you have the configuration set to show details inline?

Manage templates >> Template Settings >> Show details inline checked

This behavior will cause the detail template to open within the same page as the list.

On your Xmod developed projects are you using the XMod Detail View for XMod 5.0 - PA?

If that is the case, the detail template is on a separate page and may not have DNN page settings set to view by all users.

Thanks Buck, you're a legend! Don't know how I missed that, I looked at everything (or so I thought).

Regarding your comment on detail view, yes I believe we're using thatversion? We did a clean install of the latest Xmod (5.1, I think). When we go to the direct link to an item, we're still required to login. Do you have any idea how to access the security for this page? It seems to be the same page as the Xmod "summary" page... when I hit page settings (in the DNN control panel) when looking at an item, it's the same security settings as the Xmod summary page.

Never mind... I think that detail page security is my issue. Working on it now.

Alrighty, now it's working fine. I was generating external URLs (static URLs) using a faulty schema that included some admin only parameters, hence why it was asking for the login. Much appreciated, Buck.
